With heavy hearts we announce the death of our dear husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, Scott Lincoln Walters aka Joe Gossett on February 16, 2023.

He was born in The Naval Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts on January 30, 1955 to Ellen Jane (Bixby) Walters and Harold Lincoln Walters who preceded him in death.

He served as a Sergeant in the United States Army as a Green Beret from 1974-1980. He was a combat engineer and excelled in leadership and tactics. He scored first place in the Special Forces Scuba division. He accumulated several medals and ribbons during his service to our country.

He started his career in Georgia in 1981 with stone masonry where he met his wife, Brenda. He worked in several construction fields before he began working at American Protein, bought by Tyson Foods, Inc. and known as River Valley Ingredients twenty years ago. He was considered a valuable employee who mentored several of his co-workers and fostered positive morale.

He loved the arts, especially music and visual arts. He taught himself how to play guitar and piano by ear. Able to solo or jam with a band, he always kept the party going. Music allowed him to connect with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed creating works of art in various three-dimensional mediums. He was creative even in construction masonry such as fireplace facings, hearths, walls, waterfalls, patios and walkways. He had an amazing green thumb and took joy in life’s simplicities. A storyteller, he entertained everyone he encountered with humor and true, quirky zest. He preferred non-fiction when he read and loved history. He was an expert on the American Civil War period. He was passionate about his pets. A natural guardian of the neighborhood, he took pride in keeping watch.

He is survived by; His loving wife of 41 years, Brenda. His siblings; Steven, Lisa, Andrew and Diane. He lives on in the hearts and lives of his people: Erin Watkins (Tyler), Agent, Conrad; Jasen; Jaclyn Converse, Noah, Lily, Olive; Jason Gossett (Sharon), Matthew, Michael, and Grace.

We are going to have a visitation gathering at 1:00 pm on Sunday, April 30, 2023, in the Kelso Room of Deer Creek Shores Presbyterian Church, 7620 Lanier Drive, Cumming, Georgia 30041, to celebrate Joe/Scott’s life. In lieu of flowers he would appreciate donations made to:Bridge the Gap for Kids, (a 501c3 foundation and is tax deductible), 320 Dahlonega Street, Cumming, GA 30040.
