Sharon Grist LaChance passed away at the age of 76 on April 03, 2019. Born in Atlanta on August 18th, 1942, she was the daughter of the late William and Ida Grist. She grew up in East Point and attended Russell High School. After high school she went to work for Delta Airlines in the Personnel Department. She met the love of her life at Delta, an engineer named Ron LaChance. They married and had three girls.
Sharon stayed home to care for the girls (save a brief time working at Fulton National Bank and later opening her own home dcor shop called Wood-N-Things in Buckhead). If Ron was the CFO of the family, she was the CEO. A jack of all trades, Sharon had the innate ability to accomplish anything she put her mind to. She was DIY before DIY was a thing. From tiling a bathroom, installing a hard wood floor, repairing her own appliances, re-upholstering furniture, crocheting an afghan.you could find her doing any of these things, all the while still finding time to prepare delicious southern suppers for the family every night. As an added bonus, she was an expert baker and taught her daughters everything she knew.
Sharon loved animals. The number of dogs, cats and birds she rescued, cared for, loved, fostered, nursed and touched cannot be counted. Each of them had a special place in her heart and she had a way of understanding just what they needed, when they needed it.
The family moved from East Point to Cumming in 1980. After the sudden loss of her husband in 1999, Sharon moved to Lake Wales, Florida where she personally managed a complete renovation of her home and enjoyed the Florida lifestyle. After being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers, Sharon spent the rest of her life in a long term care facility in Buckhead.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ron LaChance and her brother Jack Grist. She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, [Melinda (Mark) Schultz, Michelle (Jeff) Arwood, Suzanne (Eric) Wagner] her five grandchildren [Chloe (Sean) Flaharty, Nathan Schultz, Hayley Johnson, Joe Johnson, Ada Arwood] and her siblings [Bill (Catherine) Grist and Kay Grist Elingburg].
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday April 7th at Alpharetta First United Methodist Church with Pastor Derry Cochran and Reverend Terri Henkel officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 3:00 PM at the church preceding the funeral. A reception will be held immediately after the service in the Bagley House at the church.
The private interment will be at 1:00pm on Monday April 8th at Sawnee View cemetery in Cumming, Georgia.
