Shirley Walters Lincoln passed away peacefully at her home on Lake Lanier in Gainesville, GA on December 20, 2016, surrounded by family. She was 81. Born and raised in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, she was the only child of Mary Valentine Atchley and Graham Thompson. She graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1953 and attended Henderson State Teachers College. She then worked as a secretary for the Jefferson County Sheriff's office. She and her husband Herbert Edward Lincoln married in 1957 and lived all over the southeastern U.S. before settling in Georgia in 1976 where she enjoyed a successful real estate career.
She was a devout Christian, loyal friend, devoted mother and grandmother, and business mentor to many. "Grace and giggles are found in this fair maiden" read the caption under her high school yearbook photo. Shirley was the epitome of grace and will be remembered by her beautiful smile, generous heart and fierce independence. She is survived by her three children Mary Gay Lincoln, Virginia (Ginny) Lincoln Denos and Herbie Lincoln, and two grandchildren Athena Meriwether Denos and Anastasia Rose Denos.
Memorial service will be held January 14, 2017 at Graceland Cemetery in Pine Bluff, AR at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, Shirley has requested a donation be made to Eagle Ranch, P.O. Box 7200, Chestnut Mountain, GA 30502, 770-967-8500, www.eagleranch.org/give/.
