An Atlanta native, Sidney Lanier Berry graduated Central Night High School on May 22, 1947. Afterwards he enlisted in the Navy with his brother, James. Sid was a Construction Battalion Member/Shipfitter, landing in the Philippines aboard the USS Valve. He married Mildred Griswell upon his return home from WWII and took a job in the Civil Service. Afterwards, Sidney began his job at the Centers for Disease Control and obtained his Bachelor's degree in Management from Georgia State University.
Sid served as an Adjunct Professor at Georgia State University and designed and operated an off campus undergraduate class there. He managed the CDC's Employee Development Program as a career employee. Sid served as the Lay Associate Minister at Belvedere United Methodist Church.
After retirement from the CDC, he founded and developed two personal businesses: Sid Berry & Associates Management Consulting Corporation and American Institutes for Management. Sid worked with a luxury home development company with his brother John in Watkinsville Georgia. He served as an Economic Developer for 20 northeast Georgia counties for the Northeast Georgia Planning & Development Agency. His ultimate position was Coordinator of the Faith, Hope & Charity Recycle Thrift Store in Ellijay, GA.
