Sophie Yurko Fisher

Sophie Yurko Fisher, age 98, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away on December 7, 2019, following a brief illness. Born in Rochester, New York, July 27, 1921, Sophie was the daughter of John and Pauline (Byck) Yurko.


Sophies career in upstate New York included positions with The Easy Washing Machine Company, Prestolite Electric, General Electric, the facilities department of the East Syracuse-Minoa Central School District, and several positions in the food service and hospitality industry. Her most remarkable role was as a devoted and loving wife, mother and homemaker.
Sophie was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 73 years Karol Frank Fisher, and sister Katherine Panek.
She is survived by her children Duane (Cristina) Fisher of Cumming, Georgia; Lance Fisher of Syracuse, New York; three grandchildren Margarita, Victor and Jonathan Fisher, as well as four great-grandchildren.


A funeral mass celebrating Sophies life and spiritual journey was held on December 12, 2019, at St. Brendan The Navigator Catholic Church in Cumming with Rev. Fr. Patrick Langan L.C. officiating. She was interred with her beloved husband at Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse, New York.
