Steven Lee Shugart, age 74, of Tucker passed away at home on November 23, 2021. He lived in Cumming for 37 years before moving to Tucker a year and a half ago.
Steve was born on June 19, 1947, to J. C. and Ava Shugart in Baytown, Tx but moved to Baldwin, LA when he was 6 months old where he was raised. He was the second of six children. He graduated from Hanson Memorial High School, then enrolled in Nicholls State University. After a fun freshman year, he joined the Navy and served on the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam war. During his time in the Navy, he met his wife, Dianna, the love of his life for 50 years.
After his Navy discharge Steve finished his Geology degree at Nicholls and completed his master's in environmental science at Virginia Tech. He started his career in Atlanta at the EPA, then went on to other environmental firms in the area. He enjoyed his work and never fully retired.
Steve accepted Jesus as his Savior in 1974 and it changed his life forever. He attended Northpoint/Browns Bridge Church for many years and lastly Immanuel Anglican Church in Decatur. He went on many mission trips with Global X teams and was involved with the Browns Bridge care ministry. He loved reading the Bible and always had a verse ready to share with others in any given situation. Toward the end of his life, he dealt with significant health issues, but he never feared death. He knew his future was secure, his hopes based not on this world but on Jesus and his promises.
Steve is survived by his wife, Dianna, his children: Kristie (Scott), Rachel (Gary), Susan (Scott), Joseph (Ashley), and Abby (Zach), and was a much beloved Papa to 8 grandsons and 5 granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Joshua, and a child lost through miscarriage. No doubt he experienced an incredible reunion that Tuesday morning.
We are grateful for the love he showed us and the many he interacted with. We will miss him more than words can express but know where he is and know that our separation is only temporary. He is home now and has heard his Savior's words, "Welcome home good and faithful servant".
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate directly to La Casa de mi Padre, an organization that serves children in El Salvador.
