Sue Davenport Cochran, 75, of Cumming, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 after a brief illness.
Born October 15, 1942 to Robert and Edythe Davenport in Southern Pines, N.C., Sue grew up in Raleigh and graduated from Broughton High School and Kings Business College. A local newspaper referred to her as Sunshine Sue in a profile of local teens, and that name fit her perfectly. Her sunny disposition and beautiful smile were well known by all her friends and acquaintances.
As a child, Sue developed a love of sewing that she would enjoy her whole life. While living in Dalton, Ga., she owned the Knit Wit, a speciality retail store which drew needlework enthusiasts from all over northwest Georgia and Tennessee. Later in life, Sue became an avid quilter and always enjoyed the challenge of tackling a new pattern, exploring quilt stores wherever she went and meeting new people in quilting circles like the many good friends she made as a member of Piecemakers Quilt Guild.
After retiring from Sonoco Products and moving to Cumming from Dalton, Sue found a welcoming church home at Cumming First United Methodist. She made many new friends there and was always grateful for the churchs presence in her life. She was also fortunate to have many great friends among her neighbors whose sense of community and support were so important to Sue.
Sue will be missed by her family, including daughter and son-in-law Kimberly and Lee Waters of Dawsonville, GA, grandchildren Tory Waters of Montgomery, AL, Ben Waters of Auburn, AL, Grant Waters (Brooke) and great grandson Henry Waters of Covington, LA, as well as her friend, companion and pet, Tess.
The family wishes to thank the many healthcare professionals who provided Sue with remarkable compassion and professionalism during her illness, especially Atlanta Cancer Care and Northside Forsyth Hospitals Infusion Center.
A celebration of Sues life will be held on Thursday, November 30th at 2:00 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Ross officiating. A reception will be held immediately after at Tams Backstage restaurant in Cumming.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cumming First United Methodist or Angels Among Us Pet Rescue.
Ingram Funeral Home Crematory, Cumming, is in charge of arrangements.
