Sue Walker Inbau

Sue Walker Inbau, age 91, died peacefully after a brief illness on January 17, 2025. She closely followed the Greatest Generation; born September 7, 1933 in Bogalusa, Louisiana, as the only child of Dudley Sylvester Walker and Myrtis Frazier Walker. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Perrin Alexander Inbau, and son, Fred Matthew Inbau. She is survived by two children; Paul Walker Pierce and Margaret Inbau Hutson (Larry), and two grandchildren; Sophie LaRue Shipley, and Theodore Perrin Shipley, both of whom she adored.

As many did during the great depression, she learned to economize, prepare meals, and sew for the family at a young age and honed those talents throughout her life. Due to her strong academic performance at Bogalusa High School, she was invited to attend the State Rally at LSU in Baton Rouge in her junior and a senior year and won first place in home economics--one year in cooking and one in sewing--and a scholarship to attend LSU.

Fiercely independent (especially by 1950’s standards), while divorced and raising Paul, she found employment at Kaiser Aluminum in New Orleans as an executive secretary. It was there that she met the love of her life, Perrin, and they married in August, 1961. They were each other’s best friends and enjoyed a strong and happy marriage that lasted 46 years. In 1970, the family relocated to Atlanta with the General Electric Company, and they remained in the area. When her children were older, she resumed her vocation and retired from Avon Products Corporation in 1992.

She was a perfectionist and excelled at everything she attempted, including bridge, needlework, quilting and baking, knew the botanical name of what grew in her yard, and the species of every bird. Known for her keen sense for financial planning, she habitually followed the daily stock reports and dispensed astute economic advice to her children and grandchildren. Her recipe file is a treasure trove. Wherever she went, she astounded people with a youthfulness and sharpness which defied her years. She lived a quiet yet robust life until very recently, avidly reading, attending church, playing in bridge tournaments, visiting casinos and traveling, recording programs and movies she wanted to share, and hosting dinners and game nights in the family home that she still maintained.

Visitation with the family will be at Ingram Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 5:00-8:00 PM. Her requiem mass will be Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM at St. Columba Episcopal Church, 939 James Burgess Road, Suwanee, Georgia, with The Reverend Tripp Norris officiating. Her ashes will be inurned alongside Perrin’s at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 11:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Camp Mikell or the charity of your choice.

May she rest eternal.
