Sue Hornsby Johnson

Mrs. Ella Sue Hornsby Johnson 88 of Cumming departed this life Wednesday, February 19, 2025, surrounded by her family. Sue was born and raised in the Grant Park area of Atlanta. She was the daughter of William and Mattie Hornsby. Sue graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1953. Mrs. Sue moved to Cumming in 1973 where she and Bobby lived until he died in 2018. Sue, known as Memaw, enjoyed life, especially her family. She could often be found at a baseball field watching the “North Georgia Skeeters”, whom her grandsons coached, and her great-grandsons played for. When not at the field she would be at home doing make-up and hair with the little girls. She would be the last person standing so that everyone else had a place to sit. Sue was truly loved by everyone and will be sorely missed by all.

Sue is preceded in death by her loving husband Robert “Bobby” Johnson, daughter, Cynthia Gail Johnson, parents, William and Mattie Hornsby, brothers, William and George Hornsby, niece, Sheryle Pirkle, father and mother in- law, Gart and Ruby Johnson, brother-in-law, Loran Johnson. 

Survivors include children, Bobbie Sue Cowart (Steve) and Caryn Burton (David), grandchildren, Robbie Cowart (Kristie), Kendra Adams (Ben), Cameron Cowart (Lexi), Emily Chance (Cory), Austin Burton (Krystin), nieces, Sharon Bagby (Gene), Debbie Thomas, Susan Hyde, nephews, Todd, Frankie, and Tony Hornsby, several nieces and nephews along with 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. 

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Ella Sue Hornsby Johnson will be Sunday, February 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Randy Richards officiating, Sue will be laid to rest beside her husband in Sawnee View Gardens following the service. Visitation will be Friday, February 21, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Saturday from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM, and Sunday from 9:00 AM until the service hour.
