Susan Maria Criss

Susan Maria Criss, 68, of Cumming, Georgia, formerly of Millerton, Pennsylvania, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Northside Hospital Forsyth, after a long and courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. She is now at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith, unconditional love, and incredible strength.

Born on June 1, 1956, in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, Susan was the daughter of the late Claude Richard Rice and Anne Belle (Fisher) Rice. On September 19, 1980, she married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Criss, in the backyard of her family home on East Lawrence Road in Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania.

Before her illness, Susan was an active and beloved member of her community, contributing in many meaningful ways. She served with dedication in Girl Scouts, the local senior citizen center, and Laurie’s Bright Beginnings Daycare. She enjoyed couponing, refunding, and garage sales. Among her greatest joys was caring for children, whether through babysitting for family and friends or volunteering at her kid’s school, cherishing every opportunity to spend time with Josh and Ashlee.

After moving to Georgia in 2017, Susan and Raymond began attending Vision Baptist Church in Alpharetta, Georgia. Previously, Susan was a devoted member of West Jackson Baptist Church in Millerton, Pennsylvania, where she joyfully expressed her faith by teaching Sunday School, singing in worship, and serving as the church pianist. She carried out these roles with passion and a deep love for the Lord until her illness prevented her from continuing.

Susan is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Raymond, who cared for her with tireless dedication, selfless love, and unwavering compassion throughout her long battle with illness. His steadfast care and deep devotion were a true testament to the strength of their bond and their love for one another. She is also survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Jacque Criss of Cumming, Georgia; her daughter and son-in-law, Ashlee and Joshua Burrell of Millerton, Pennsylvania; her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Cecelia Rice of Anderson, South Carolina; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Brenda Criss of Lindley, New York; and six cherished granddaughters: Brianna, Makenzee, and Rylee Burrell of Millerton, Pennsylvania, and Emma, Thea, and Daisy Criss of Cumming, Georgia. She also leaves behind several beloved nieces, nephews and friends. 

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Susan’s life on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 5:00 PM, at Vision Baptist Church, 355 Windy Hill Dr, Alpharetta, Georgia, with Pastor Trenton Cornwell and Pastor Victor Perry officiating. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Alder Run Cemetery in Millerton, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Susan’s honor to either West Jackson Baptist Church or Vision Baptist Church.
