Susan (Sue) Youdell, age 86, of Cumming, GA, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2022. Susan was bornin Benton Harbor, Michigan, and was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert Nicholas Youdell. She is survived by two children: Pamela (Raymond) Bousquet of Gainesville, GA; and Mark (Marjorie) Youdell of Cumming, GA; grandchildren Robert (Elizabeth), Daniel (Jessica) and R. Nick Bousquet; Sarah and Elizabeth Youdell; step-grandson Josh (Shannon) Virgadamo; step-granddaughter Heather Potter; 3 step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Extremely devoted to her family, faith, and her country, Mrs. Youdell leaves behind a legacy of dedication, commitment, and service. Susan was previously employed as a secretary for many years in Michigan and retired in 1994. She volunteered and held several offices with the Blossomtime Festival of Southwestern Michigan for more than 20 years, and also volunteered at hospitals in Michigan, North Carolina, and Georgia since her retirement.
The Youdells moved to Franklin, NC, in 1994, where Susan joined the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and held several offices at chapter and state levels. Moving to Cumming in 2003, Susan then served as a member and officer of the Chestatee River Chapter DAR and became known as "The Flag Lady," speaking to over 7,000 elementary school children around North Georgia on Flag Etiquette and History. She later became an organizing member and officer of the Patriots of Liberty Chapter DAR of Alpharetta. Susan was also an active member of the Cumming American Legion Auxiliary Unit 307 and served on the Girls State Committee for many years.
The Youdells were long-time and active members of the United Methodist Church in Michigan, North Carolina and Georgia, singing in church choirs throughout their marriage.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 3:00 pm, at Cumming First United Methodist Church, 770 Canton Hwy, Cumming, GA 30040, with interment scheduled for a later date.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Ministry Fund of Cumming First United Methodist Church, Attention: John Hutchinson, Director of Music.
