7I have fought the good fight,I have finished the race,I have kept the faith.8Now there is in store for methe crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that dayand not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Thomas A. George, Sr. was born on February 4, 1939, in Edayaranmula, Kerala State, India, to A. G. Thomas and Saramma Kurian. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Union Christian College, Aluva, Kerala State, India. He was also the recipient of a Bachelor of Education degree. Thomas, Sr. was a Principal of a Teachers Training College and High School Physics and Mathematics teacher for over 40 years in India, Malaysia, Zambia, Nigeria, and the United States mostly in mission schools. After he retired from teaching, he went into cars sales with the Nalley Automotive Group and Legacy Ford. He did that for over 15 years with over 14 of those years with Legacy Ford in McDonough - before retiring again. He had an uncanny ability to make friends with anybody and had a portfolio of thousands of repeat customers. After he retired from car sales, Thomas, Sr. did a bit of real estate work for about a decade with Metro Brokers before settling fulltime into being a grandfather. His grandchildren, Michael and Sarah Ann, were his world!
Saramma George and Thomas George, Sr. were married on January 20, 1966 and remained partners in love and life for over 53 years. Their only child, Thomas, married Bissy Abraham on January 20, 1996 the same day Thomas, Sr. and Saramma were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary!
Although he was an ordained minister, he never went into the priesthood. Thomas, Sr. and Saramma were part of a small group of believers who built up the Mar Thoma Church here in Atlanta, in the late 1980s, from a small group of attendees to the vibrant community of believers we are today.
Thomas, Sr. molded many lives during his time on Earth with students who went on to become state governors and lieutenant governors, government ministers, members of parliament, doctors, engineers, and business entrepreneurs. He was a protective brother of five sisters, and a proud Uncle and Great Uncle of many nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces.
Most of all, Thomas, Sr. was a devout and faithful Christian who gave through service to others and loved others unconditionally.
He left for his heavenly home on Friday, June 7, 2019.
