Veda Cochran Payne, 82, of Cumming passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2024.
Originally from Gilmer County, Veda’s family moved from Ellijay to Gwinnett County in the mid-1950s. Being an avid reader, she gravitated to school work and achieved Valedictorian status upon graduation of Dacula High School in 1961. She married her husband, Larry, in 1966 and made their home in Forsyth County. She was very active in the lives of her children as room mom and PTA President, and thoroughly loved and embraced the role of “Granna” to her four grandchildren. She is well-known for gifting her own handmade crochet afghans to her close friends and family, and to this day people say they still cherish the afghan she made for them 20-50 years ago.
She is survived by her husband, Larry, sons, Randy (Wendi) and Kelly (Jennifer). Grandchildren- Randy’s children Bailey Taylor (Colson), and Zach; Kelly’s children Andrew, and Kate. Veda is survived by two sisters, Della Oliver and Stella Tankersley, as well as many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 7, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Haw Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
