Vera W. Crump

Vera W. Crump, 90, of Marietta, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, August 8th, 2012.

Verna Williams Crump passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 8, 2012 in Marietta, GA. at Sunrise Assisted Living. Verna was born in Zolfo Springs FL on October 1, 1921' the daughter of the late B. Franklin Williams and Sally Hampton Williams.

She grew up in Sebring, FL where she met her husband, the late Chalmers C. Crump, when he was an Army Engineer building a training airfield during World War II. Their marriage lasted over sixty years. Verna was a devoted mother and wife and followed her husband to a number of engineering projects and assignments with the Army Corps of Engineers. These included
Richmond, VA, Washington DC, San Juan, PR, Jacksonville, FL and several years in Athens, Greece during the reconstruction of Europe during the Marshall Plan. When her husband went into the private sector, they settled in Miami, FL in 1955 and lived there until retirement in 1990. After that she and Mr. Crump lived in North Carolina and North Georgia before coming to Roswell in 2000. She was proud to be a Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Throughout her life and travels she felt her role was to be a homemaker and Mother. She always enjoyed gardening and became a quilter in her later years.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents and brother Frank Williams (Betty) and is survived by a sister, Betty Reeves (Bud) of Ocala, FL, two sons, Terry (Penny) and Stephen (Sharon), two grandsons, Hilliard Crump (Heather) of Atlanta and Edward (Alison) of Austin, TX . She
was very pleased to welcome her two Great Grandchildren, Bennett and Carolyn in her 90th year. She is also survived by a number of nieces nephews and their families.

She was a dedicated Christian and a Memorial Service for her will be held at the Chapel of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, 955 Johnson Ferry Rd., Marietta at 3:00pm on Tuesday, August 14th, 2012.
