Vernon E. Whelchel, 75, born in Gaffney, SC, Sept 14, 1944, passed away Sunday June 3, 2018, after battling cancer for the 2nd time.
He is survived by his loving wife, Georgia Margaret (Winfrey) Whelchel, 73, of Cumming, GA. He is also survived by his 2 daughters, Kristen Whelchel and Richlene Lidell, both of Cumming, GA., his Aunt Margaret Taylor of Gaffney, SC, and many other family members also in the South Carolina area.
Vernon had one job from the age of 18, at Cryovac, until he retired, from which he made many friends who became like a second family. He was a man that generations havent seen in a long time. He had a passion and a pride that couldnt be denied. He loved many things, baking and cooking or just about anything, and he was brilliant at it. Most of all he loved his family, his wife and his two children as much as anybody could love and care for anyone. He would give his life for his family. Last but definitely not least, he had a precious little King Charles cavalier dog, Chase, who he called his little boy that he adored.
There will never be a man like Vernon ever, he had a smile that would light up a room and an audacious sense of humor that would make people laugh at the drop of a hat. He will be remembered for so many things, but more than that he will be remembered because there was only one Vernon Whelchel. Men arent made like him anymore. He will be truly missed and forever in our hearts.
Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming is in charge of arrangements.
