Walter Stetson Gifford, age 54, of Cumming, lost his 3 year battle with cancer on April 20, 2011. He was born in Canonsburg, PA, July 28, 1956 to the late Rev. Charles A. Gifford, and Alma Canning Gifford. He graduated from Cannon McMillian HS in 1974 and served 4 years in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Yokosuka Japan and Jacksonville, Florida. He attended Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, West Mifflin, PA from 1983 -1985. He was a sales engineer for the past 4 years for Cooper Power Systems, Suwanee, GA. He also worked for Cooper Power Systems in Canonsburg, PA from 1979 1982. He was married for 28 years to Jenny Powell Gifford of Houston, PA, and had one son Paul David Gifford presently serving in the United States Navy. He had one brother, John (Maria) Gifford of Milton, VT, sisters Ruth (Gary) Brown of Groveland, FL, Joyce (Don) Wilson of Huntersville, NC and brother-in-law David (Joyce) Powell of Washington, PA. One sister Nellie Gifford is deceased. He is also survived by nephews Ryan (Natalie) Powell of Macedonia, OH, Mark Powell of Washington, PA, Jeff (Carla) Waite and children Celsey and Cody of Williamsburth, MI, Greg Waite of Lexington, NC, Marty (Ana) Waite, Marco and Giovanni Sgherza of Goveland, FL, Scott (Sandra) Campbell, Jacob of Villa Rica, GA, Trinity Abbott, Eli, Israel, Philip, Jeremiah of Ellijay, GA, Kenny and Scott Klovonick of NC, Jennifer (Randy) Kerns Abagail, Lillie, Felix of Canonburgh, PA, cousins, and many beloved friends. He was president of the mens club of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Cumming, GA and was involved in several activities at the church. He enjoyed his work, NASCAR, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2011 at the Church of the Good Shepherd with Father Frank Richardson and Rev. Mr. Don Nadeau officiating. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Ingram Home on Sunday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Monday from 9:00 am until hour of service. Ingram Funeral Home Crematory, Cumming, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
