Mr. Waymon Benson Tate, age 87, of Cumming, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Orene of 64 years. Mr. Tate was born in Lafayette, GA May 3, 1923. He was raised in Forsyth County and farmed for a living. Mr. Tate served his country for freedom in WW II and was a purple-heart recipient. Throughout his life, he was a trusted employee of Sudderth Furniture, Stone Furniture Co., Coca-Cola Company and the Forsyth County Board of Education as bus driver and maintenance supervisor. Mr. Tate managed the Farmers Market in Forsyth County for many years. He was a member of the Veterans Alliance, the McDonalds Coffee Club and the Lafayette FAM #44 Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. As a former member of Corinth Baptist Church, he served them in the office of Church Clerk and Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, Song Leader and Deacon. At his death, he was a member and Deacon of Haw Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Gerald Tate and Benson and Brenda Tate; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and David Clackum; grandchildren, Julie and Randy Davenport and Jan and Justin Gaddis of Dawsonville, Clint Clackum of Cumming; great grandchildren, Colbie, William and T.J. Gaddis of Dawsonville; sister, Ethel Grizzle of Dahlonega; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Compassionate Hospice Foundation, 2565 Thompson Bridge Rd., Ste. 112, Gainesville, GA 30501. Funeral services will be held, Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 4:00 pm in the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Orr, Rev. Jackie Stewart and Rev. Larry Vaughan officiating. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Thursday, June 24th from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Friday, June 25th from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm, and Saturday, June 26th from 9:00 am until the hour of service. Ingram Funeral Home Crematory, Cumming, GA is in charge of the arrangements.
