William “Bill” Hayne Mills IV

Born on February 13, 1954, William Hayne Mills IV “Bill” passed from this life on November 28, 2023. He is survived by his son Robert (Alana) Mills, granddaughter Charlotte Mills, brother Stephen (Elise) Mills, nieces Julianna (Nick) Betker and Lauren (Zach) Armstrong, and grandnephew Mills Armstrong. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Hayne Mills III, Margaret Hennessy Mills, and sister Margaret “Peggy” Mills. 

Bill was a graduate of Marist School in Atlanta where he lettered in Football and Track. He went on to play football as a freshman at Presbyterian College in South Carolina. Bill then transferred to Georgia Tech, participating in intramural sports, and remained a life-long Yellow Jackets fan. He had a long and successful career in technical and industrial sales and management. At the time of his retirement in 2016, he was International Vice President of Sales and Marketing for North American Interconnect. 

Bill was a Christian and stayed active in his church and community. After hurricane Katrina, Bill and his son, Robert, drove a truck filled with holiday gifts and toys from Atlanta to New Orleans. Upon retirement to St George Island, Florida, he was a member of the St George Island Methodist Church and served as Administrative Counsel Chair, taught a Sunday School class, and was active in the Meals-on-Wheels and Stephen’s Ministries. Bill served as president of the St George Island Civic Club and launched a prison ministry and fresh start program in the Florida Panhandle. Thanksgiving 2023 saw Bill assisting with meals for shut-ins at Cumming First United Methodist Church. 

Bill was an avid sports fan, loved music, sailing, traveling and reading books. He especially loved his granddaughter, Charlie, and was so happy to be part of her life. He will be missed by friends and loved ones. A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, January 6, 2024 in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home with John Fischer officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the time of the service.
