William F. Fitzgerald "Billy" the beloved husband of Sheila (Cleary) Fitzgerald, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2013 at Gracemont Assisted Living in Cumming, GA. Born in Lowell, Billy was the eldest son of the late William and Christine (Delahanty) Fitzgerald. He received his early education in Lowell schools and after graduating, enlisted in the U.S. Army, proudly serving during WWII in Africa and Europe. As a result of an injury, he was discharged with a disability and returned to Lowell. After his return, Billy attended Boston College, graduating with a degree in Accounting. He was a long time employee of the Internal Revenue Service. When he retired, he pursued a career in teaching, which was his true passion. He taught at Umass Lowell and Lowell Vocational School. Billy was an avid golfer and long time member of Mt. Pleasant Golf Club. He also enjoyed the horse races, playing cards, gardening and walking with his faithful canine companion, Jetsu. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, James and Joseph, and a sister, Christine Wadleigh. He is survived by his wife, several nieces and nephews, and many other loved ones. A funeral mass will be held Monday, August 26th at 9:00 a.m. at Christ the Redeemer Church in Dawsonville, GA, with Father Higgins officiating.
