Winburn Lenoe Turk, 90 of Cumming passed away Monday, December 16, 2019. He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Martha Jo Peck Turk; son, Jeffrey Mark Turk; parents, Otis L. and Eva Mundy Turk; brothers, Byron Turk and Royce Turk; sister, Selbanell Turk Ferguson and infant sister, Mary Elizabeth Turk.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Lesa and Jimmy Whitworth; sister-in-law, Leoneve Whitmire; grandchildren, Melissa Ford, Stephanie (Casey) Hinson, Nicole (Josh) Hargrove, Rachel (Matt) Settle, Lacy Whitworth, Zak Whitworth, Kia (TJ) Forrester and Kenric Whitworth; several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Winburn served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War on the USS Gen. W.M. Mitchell. He retired from Southern Bell after 35 years of service. Winburn and Martha Jo were active members of First Baptist Church Cumming for 30 years. He was a Deacon and they were members of the Welcome Sunday School Class. They were also active members of the BellSouth Pioneers. Winburn was a Past Treasurer of the Forsyth County Lions Club.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 19, at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church Cumming with Dr. Bob Jolly and Dr. James Merritt officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Thursday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
